It was my greatest pleasure to have an opportunity to work with the residents of the Jackson County Dormition of the Mother of God, in the design of their new church. One of our design objectives was to reference the traditional designs of the Romanian Orthodox church that the women of the monastery called home.
Our other main objective was to provide a building that was modern, convenient and energy efficient. To that end the building is constructed of modern efficient materials. The exterior walls are constructed of ICF (insulated concrete forms) blocks, the interior of wood studs and plaster.
The artist is a gifted resident of the monastery.
